FARMING ON A SMALL SCALE

Today's walk was in lovely sunshine but there was a chill in the air, more like September, than August!  We noticed that the hedgerows are becoming abundant with fruit and berries.  A cold Winter perhaps?  We will have to bring along some bags soon as the blackberries are beginning to look very inviting.

Our walk today was quite a route march.  We walked on mown pathways on land beside the cemetery, sunlit wooded lanes, footpaths on the edge of tall maize fields and up towards Windsor Hill.

A few months ago we saw this smallholding with a menagerie of farm animals including a couple of magnificent wild turkeys.  It reminded me of the paintings of Grandma Moses, the American folk artist who didn't begin painting in earnest until she was 78!  She depicted her rural farming homeland with colourful naive scenes and landscapes of her family and community events. The turkey, a native of North American featured in her pictures, especially at thanksgiving!

We couldn't remember on what road it was, but today we stumbled across it again, so I could take some more pictures.  Amazing to see all the animals in the same field with various shelters.  Farming on a really small and local scale!
