WALK UP THE TOR!

I have lived in Somerset for 24 years but have never visited one of its most popular tourist attractions, which is steeped in history and legend, and that is Glastonbury Tor!  It is only a few miles from Shepton and I have driven past many times.  Today, I rectified that with a walk to the top with Belinda.  We parked the car in a Glastonbury street and started the trek up on a public footpath...

It was quite cloudy and murky to start with, but by the time we climbed all the steps up to the summit, the skies had started to clear and the sun was beginning to make an appearance!  The views were spectacular and there were plenty of benches on the way up to have a rest!  Even, early in the morning, there were other walkers and even the occasional energetic runner!

Glastonbury Tor (or hill) has the roofless St Michael's Tower, a Grade 1 listed building, on the top.  This is the iconic image that can be seen on countless photographs, artworks etc and is a landmark that can be seen miles away.  It was well worth the climb...

When we got down to the bottom, we walked into Glastonbury and went to the Hundred Monkeys - a great natural and organic food cafe and bakery - for a well earned drink.  Belinda recommended a chia tea latte - another first for me!  It was spicy and comforting and certainly something to try again...
