No visible sunrise today as it was damp and too cloudy, but not the torrential rain forecast! I will be glad when it gets lighter in the mornings - it will make taking the photos easier!
We had a wander down the High Street and discussed the news about businesses closing. The heart of our town has had loads of shops shutting down with only a few opening up. The top left pic shows me in front of one of the latest shops to close - The Pet Store. The footfall in the High Street dramatically fell after a Tesco Superstore was built at the top end of town forming a business park that took some of the High Street shops. The gallery that I am connected with manages to stay in business because we are a co-operative and we take it in turns to man the shop. We are also lucky to have loyal customers who prefer to shop locally. As they say, 'if you don't use it, you'll lose it!'
Shepton is quite hilly with lots of narrow lanes and pathways which give good views looking down on roof tops, gardens and interesting developments! We were intrigued with a very modern flat roofed building being built - see middle pic above. The signs outside seem to indicate that it is going to be an architect's practice but we don't know... We love looking into people's gardens and seeing all the old interesting buildings in Shepton. There is certainly a diverse range of architecture with loads of history...
As I don't eat meat, I have to make sure that I get plenty of protein and energy. One of the best ways I have discovered of doing this is to eat nut butters and they are delicious! When I go to the health food shop I buy 1kg tubs of crunchy peanut, almond and cashew butter. I add them to smoothies, breakfast bowls, spreads, puddings and savoury dishes or simply eat them by the spoonful... They add great texture and flavour and contains tons of plant protein, fats and vitamins which will boost energy levels. I certainly recommend them!!
