Today was a wash out - it was dark and wet, Jenny had been called away and after looking at the weather, I decided on a lie-in! A favourite pastime of mine, as well as walking, is to visit art exhibitions. Recently, I went to a fabulous textile one in the Museum of Somerset, Taunton.
The exhibition was called Imprints by the South West Textile Group - a group that I used to belong to, and is on until January 2nd 2016. As well as seeing all the fantastic artwork, which was inspired by pieces in the museum, the place itself is well worth a visit. The museum is located in the 12th Century Great Hall of Taunton Castle but is very modern and family friendly inside, with a great cafe! It presents its wonderful historic artefacts in an interesting way. The exhibition hall (pictured below), is a lovely space and they have shows there all the year round.
Pictured below is some work I particularly liked. The tiny art dolls are by Lydie Gardner. She took inspiration from the Donyatt-Ware Plate in the 'Rebellion' Gallery (bottom right). As she says, 'The Maids of Taunton depicted on the plate look as though they are having a great time!' She made three sets of dolls out of wire and fabric and they all look as though they are having a fun time!!
