NO WALK TODAY!

Unfortunately, Jenny didn't get much sleep last night so couldn't make it this morning and I didn't fancy facing the elements on my own as it was very dark and soggy!

Jenny and I are both in that so called generation of  'baby boomers' - those born between 1945 - 1965.  It was a time of great change and opportunities.  At first there was the austerity of post war, with a restricted diet, mostly stable home life and being allowed out to 'play' unsupervised.  This gave way to the Beatles, Mary Quant, the pill, free education right through to degree level and financial independence through working!  Now we can't believe we are the age we are and feel too young to get old!

Here is my personal baby boomer's guide for staying fit and healthy and looking good:

*  Regular exercise - for physical and mental health - I walk, swim and do pilates.

*  Eat healthily - I eat loads of fresh fruit and vegetables everyday.  If I make a cake I put vegetables in that too!

*  Consult the professionals to take care of your hair, eyes, teeth, skin, feet and nails.  It is worth the money!

*  Be open and seek out natural and alternative therapies.  I have found them better for me than prescribed medication.

*  Protect yourself from the sun and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

*  Before leaving the house, check make-up with a magnifying mirror!

*  De-clutter and simplify your home - something I am still working on!

*  Keep up-to-date with technology, fashion, make-up, music, popular culture etc.  I am selective what I buy and use, but at least I know what the grandchildren are talking about and they can help with the technology!

*  Surround yourself with objects and people you love and learn to say 'no'.  Keep stress out of your life.

*  Never stop taking challenges, learning, being creative, and above all having fun!

I am sure Jenny has lots of tips, especially on the beauty side, so I will ask for her list when it is her turn to write the post!  As you can see walking is up there as vital to my exercise regime to keep fit and lively.  It also boosts the level of endorphins in the blood stream which helps me to feel happier and more optimistic. As George Burns said, 'You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old'!!
