Shepton Mallet is our home town - we both live on the Tadley Acres Estate. Shepton is an ancient town in Somerset, lying in the folds of the Mendip Hills alongside the River Sheppey which flows from nearby Aldhelms Well.
The name Shepton is derived from Saxon words - ‘Sepetone’ or Sheeptown meaning sheep enclosure. This is a reflection of it being a major player over centuries in the wool trade. The Mallet part of the name was added in 1100 when the town was passed into the hands of the Malet family.
